Social media tips for car companies

Car companies are missing plenty of opportunities when it comes to social media. That is the conclusion from an investigation of Aftersales Magazine in cooperation with Autosociaal. But what opportunities are these? Which channels should you use? And how do you successfully use social media? Autosociaal gives you some tips that you can use quickly and easily.

What opportunities does social media offer your car company?

Why use social media in the first place? Surely this only takes time? Fortunately, it can also give you a lot. Millions of Dutch people use social media and there is a good chance that your customers are among them.

Social media gives you the opportunity to easily connect with your (potential) customers. In addition, it offers the opportunity to contribute to the sale of your used cars. To remain visible as a company on social media, it is important to consistently share interesting content with your followers. But how do you go about this?

Channels that suit you

Social media is an ideal tool to connect with your customer and exude your car company’s DNA. You can do this through various channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube and on and on. But which platform should you use?

Choose social media channels that suit your car company and focus on 1 or 2 platforms, so you can put your focus there. After all, it’s better to do one thing well than several things halfway. After all, when potential customers come across a social media profile and the last post dates back to 2015, it does not come across as very professional.

When choosing a channel, also consider your target audience. Are many of your customers on Facebook but not on Twitter? Then choose to only create a Facebook profile. Or do you want to tap into a younger target group in addition to your older customers? Then opt for Instagram, for example.

Offering occasions

A page offering only used cars is not really interesting for your followers. Especially not if there are 20 used cars for sale at the same time. Your followers won’t see the wood for the trees and not everyone is interested in buying a car. Still, you want to let them know that you have some great used cars for sale.

If you put a used car on your page, write a short, interesting story that your followers will enjoy reading. If some of your followers are interested in buying a used car, they will visit your website.

In addition, Facebook and Instagram, among others, offer interesting opportunities to advertise your occasions. Want to know more? Read our blog about advertising used cars online.

A few more tips and reminders:

  • Don’t make messages too long
  • Followers primarily view your posts on their cell phones. Keep this in mind when posting an image with text
  • Always include a photo or video with your post
  • Be sure to respond quickly to responses
  • Create a social media calendar
  • Try using videos (and maybe even livestreams)
  • Ask questions in your posts. This creates interaction!
